The Accession Declaration

The Accession Declaration is a statutory declaration by the Sovereign that they are a faithful Protestant and will secure the Protestant succession. This dates from the Bill of Rights in 1688, and the Sovereign must make this declaration either at their Coronation or the first State Opening of parliament, whichever happens first following their accession. The King signs a copy of each, which are then attached to the Coronation Roll.
